“I FEAR…” (Part 3)

We humans are afraid of so many things! In the previous post, I talked about being afraid, and we forgetting to CALL ON GOD for help. But what are we afraid of? With God by our side, no evil, no fear, can stand against us. Yes, we still fail and stumble sometimes, but if we truly and fully commit our life to God, we’re in God’s hands.

Why are we always so sick with worry? We fear so many things! But fear what?

The common fears…

Fear of the future

Fear of poverty

Fear of sickness

Fear of people

Fear of being lonely

Fear of rejection

Fear of death

Fear of cockroaches

Fear of heights

Fear of animals

Fear of food (nah, I’m just crappin’. Haha, but seriously, people go on extreme diets. And say they’re very fat [most are not]. So I count it as a fear of food.)

Fear of gaining weight (ok, that’s more logical. Hahaha.)

And etc. etc. etc…

What are YOUR fears? Tell me, I’d love to know. =P

The not-so-common fears:

Fear of books (wadda?! Yes, it’s called, bibliophobia!)

Fear of pretty girls (venustraphobia – yikes!)

Fear of the moon (selenophobia)

Fear of ventriloquist dummies (automaton phobia)

Fear of flutes (aulophobia)

Fear of CHURCHES!! (ecclesiophobia)

Fear of computers (logizomechanophobia)

(I feel so smart now. Haha. I got the info from Reader’s Digest. It’s the best magazine in the world!)

Well yeah, there are plenty more weird fears that we weird humans have. But let me add one more…

THE FEAR OF GOD!

Aha! Have you ever thought of that? Think about it then. We have to learn to fear God above all else. The Bible tells us not to fear man, but GOD.

Proverbs 29:25 ~ The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

Yes, we still fear many things. It’s not wrong, OK. We cannot help it. But really, if you learn to fear God above all else – to trust God above all else – you will be safe in His hands.

God covers me and you. Call on the name of Jesus!

I FEAR… (Part 2)

A friend of mine went on a school trip. It was some pointless school trip for prefects. As you probably know, these camps are supposed to TEST YOUR COURAGE. I find it so silly. My friend was telling me that they were to go on a night trek in the jungle at midnight. Its either they stay close, or get lost.

Well, they got lost anyway. And I couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy when she started telling the creepy part of the story. The part which sums up in one word: FEAR. Nah, I’m not gonna’ waste words telling you the WHOLE story, but yeah, it’s about fear. =)

My friend was terribly afraid. I simply don’t understand why the teachers planned such an unsafe and PERILOUS trip. Anyway, amidst all the storytelling, (but really, she was telling the truth) I finally managed to blurt out what I wanted to ask her all along:

“So did you call on Jesus’ name and pray for protection or not?!”

She’s a Christian, and of course, she’s heard about praying for protection when you’re in danger and calling on God when you’re in trouble. Then I asked:

“But why?! Why didn’t pray and call on God to protect you? Anything could have happened!”

Guess what was her answer?

“Well, I was so scared and anxious to even REMEMBER to pray in Jesus’ name! I forgot about it.”

Aha! Many times, we FORGET that we can call out to God for help. We’re most of the time so hot and bothered to actually remember that amidst all the trouble, GOD CAN HELP! How could my friend have forgotten? I mean, it was her most crucial point, and she forgot her ONLY source of help!

When have you turned to other means of security and help other than God?

Of course, God can send other people to help us, but firstly, we must learn to give God a call! Don’t forget; never forget, my mother’s counsel: “When you’re afraid, just call on the name of JESUS.”

Psalm 37:39-40

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
He is their stronghold in time of trouble.

The Lord helps them and delivers them;
He delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in Him.

"I Fear…" (Part 1)

What are your worst fears? Nobody likes to talk about their fears. It runs a chill down your spine when you think of the things you’re afraid of. Everyone likes to appear normal. Besides, who likes to tell people what they’re AFRAID of? I remember my dad saying, “We humans are afraid of so many things!” But isn’t it awfully true?

My mum used to tell me and my sisters (all the time, actually…), “When you’re afraid, call upon the name of JESUS.” Even from young, I’d learn to do just that.

You know sometimes in the night, when you can’t sleep, you start thinking about “creepy stuff”.
I mean when I was younger. Well of course, I wouldn’t be so silly to think there are horrible monsters in the closet or under the bed. =P I think of other things. Probably a recent scary movie I’ve watched would come to my mind. Sometimes I even hide myself under the blanket until I feel so hot and till I’m running out of fresh air! What could I do? Run to my parents’ room? I was far more afraid to even get OUT of my bed! Haha, I know, it’s so funny. I’m very sure the same thing happened to you.

But then, after awhile, I’d remember… or God would just remind me, to call on His name! It just comes. Then I remember, “Hey, I can call on Jesus!” It makes me feel better. But it DOES help! It’s not some type of magic word or something; it’s far more powerful than that. Jesus can help us overcome “it”. What?

FEAR.

We go through it all our lives. FEAR. Each time I’m afraid or worried, I REMEMBER: “Call on the name of JESUS!” And the peace of God will come upon you.

Philippians 4:6-7 ~ "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to GOD. And the PEACE OF GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

But the thing is, many times when we’re afraid, we tend to FORGET.

Forget what?

Forget that we can: CALL UPON THE NAME OF JESUS!

To be continued…
