Charged for Over-Snacking

Gah, I’ve been “over-snacking” too much nowadays. Even my sisters have noticed that I’ve been sneaking at the fridge and nibbling on chocolates nearly all the time and snacking on cakes and biscuits. But you see, the whole problem started all because…

I study in the kitchen!

Laughs and cries. Now, how funny can that be? The word gluttony just popped up in my mind. Does it have anything to do with “over-snacking”? Haha. I hope not, though. Cause’ I just checked the dictionary for the definition of “gluttony” and it actually means: the act or practice of eating and drinking to excess. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins in Christian tradition.

Oh my goodness, I didn’t know that!! But “over-snacking” isn’t that bad right… Or is it? After all, it is still considered as a bit “over”…

Haha, just for laughs. Jirene took this shot while I was flipping through a guide book on famous eateries in Phuket. Oh and by the way, I just realized, you don't have to bother the nitwit in the background. Haha, kidding.

Mermaids: Reality or Fairy tale?

A bizarre, out of the ordinary conversation with my friend, Rebecca, erupted out of nowhere while we were listening to the Sunday sermon in church today. All of a sudden, Rebecca began by saying:

“Do you believe in mermaids?”

I was stunned out of my reverie. Eyeing her quizzically, I said, “What, did you just actually say, MERMAIDS?”

Rebecca went on to explain that mermaids were real, and that you could find them in the deep unknown seas where they lived on rocks and sang songs. Strangely, it sounded very much like a story I’ve heard before… At first, I thought she was telling me a joke, but then as I asked her more questions, I realized that she really DID believe that mermaids existed! That’s when I told her:

“Who told you that? Nooo… Mermaids do not exist!”

I was laughing all the while, actually. A pure look of shock streaked over Rebecca’s face. Her eyes grew wider with unexpectedness. Yes, the truth hurt. But thank God, the moment passed as quickly as it came, and a relieved expression crossed her face. And we both started laughing at the absurdity of the situation. Curious to know why she actually believed that mermaids were real, I asked her: “Did you ask your parents? How come you actually thought they existed?”

She never asked her parents. Her stark reply was, “I think I read too many storybooks.” I stifled a laugh. Shockingly, she told me that I was actually the FIRST person to tell her the TRUTH about mermaids: they did not exist. She said that whenever she told her friends about them, they wouldn’t show any direct response. They didn’t approve of it, neither did they disapprove it. So she just kept on believing a mere fairytale myth. I found it absolutely uproarious!

While Rebecca might have been disappointed that someone finally told her the truth – after believing a fairy tale nearly all her life – the truth is still the truth. It might hurt, but when you start realizing that the truth is the truth, and you cannot alter it, it won’t hurt as much anymore.

John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

Listen to the right counsel. Read the right stuff. It doesn’t mean that we can’t read fairytales anymore, but it simply means that we must learn to judge between a mere fairytale and pure truth.

Chit-Chatters

Early this morning, I found my sister trying to shake me up to get me out of bed. At first, I screamed at her to leave me alone. Then only did I realize that I had to get up to go for the GRC Sports Fiesta.

There weren’t as many people present as I had expected at the sports event. Plus, I found the whole thing rather “loosely coordinated.” Everyone was walking around rather blurrily. But thank God, I did not literally waste my time. I managed to talk to some of my old friends. I was practically walking around and simply chit chatting with different people. At least I went there and accomplished something, right?

As a result, I got to know a bunch of new friends! That’s what I’m always most happy about. Wherever I go, I know I have another God-given opportunity to meet new people and discover new lives. It’s wonderful to be able to socialize and talk to others, you know. Not everyone can do that.

Yes, I may be homeschooled, but I still have opportunities to meet others and I am so not antisocial, okay… Ahahaha, seriously! A lot of people think homeschoolers have few friends. And they think people who study at home don’t really know how to socialize in a group since they always study ALONE. Oh, hold it there! No, no. That’s the wrong way to think. At least I’M NOT LIKE THAT. Haha. But it varies with different people la, I guess.

I thank God that I got to meet Esther and Debbie – the twin homeschoolers from Seremban, and their brother Jonathan. I managed to talk to Rachel and Sarah See (finally, after so long!), and they introduced me to their cousin, Ass-something-something. Sorry, I actually forgot the other part of his name. But seriously, I only remembered the first part of his name since everyone called him that. Heh. ;)

Later on, I met Melinda and Melissa while playing Frisbee under the scorching hot sun. And Gracie introduced me to a rather new girl in GRC – Lydia, and her sister Hazel. Gosh, I think they look so-o-o alike – that reminds me of Su Ling and Su Mei. =P Puzzlingly, you notice that all the people I mentioned were in “pairs” cause’ they were either brother and sister, or sister and sister. Haha, funny.

I met a few other people also – whose names I forgot. (Haha, it’s usually like that when I meet so many different faces in such a short time.) And guess what? I found out that Dawn is coming for GY Camp! Whoopee! =D Unfortunately, after gaining the opportunity to get to know all these people, I missed the chance to go for youth service in Klang. My dad had a meeting so I had no transport to go.

Oh well, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But it’s best not to brood over your loss. There’s always something better.

Can you believe it? I was actually trying to AIM when I actually couldn't even SEE my target. Yeah, you can figure out why, if you didn't know.

Mr. Spider & the Unknown Creature

When I first saw the big humongous creature, I shrieked and screamed. But then I told myself, No, I must catch it and take a shot of it. Well, in the end, my dad caught it for me. Haha. But as I was trying to take some very close up shots of the insect, I found myself starting to ADMIRE it. Really!! It started to look quite fascinating and not disgusting and scary anymore… I wish I knew what insect was it. (Maybe Chris would be so kind to help me identify these creatures... Ahahahaha!) It was quite fun observing it in the jar. I spent nearly two hours just admiring it and snapping photos of it. In the end, I chose all the nice shots to post here. Enjoy!

It's underbody fascinates me. Look at the sockets for the legs! Oh nevermind, I just don't know how to describe it.

It seems to have two large "pincers" (I forgot what is the proper name for it. Haha, where's Chris? xD) and four smaller ones. How intriguing.

In the end, I let it go. It would be such a pity for such a beautiful thing to die in an empty peanut butter jar. =)

Blasted people!

GY Camp 2007

I was just calling up some people (A LOT of people, actually…) to tell them about GY Camp this year end and invite them to come. Man, I’m so glad that I actually took the initiative to call all these people! YOU can make a difference, too. Some of my friends didn’t even know that they could invite their school friends or non-Christian friends. But yes, you can! Invite as many of your friends to come! You’ll never know what might come out of it.

I was looking through my contacts list in my phone, and I just dialed the numbers and called different people. Surprisingly, the people I didn’t expect to respond to my call seemed to be more interested to come than the people I thought would be interested to come!

I managed to call a few of the Calvary youth guys to come also. And I’m surprised that even Sherlyn is coming! I hope Reichel can come… And guess what, I even called Michelle Yeoh! =D It’ll be my third year going for GY Camp, and I bet this year’s gonna’ be another blast of a camp! ;P

I LOVE THE LOGO!! Caleb Tan designed it. The t-shirt this year is gonna’ be really nice, I’m sure.

Charlene’s Sweet Sixteen

Yesterday night I went for Charlene’s birthday party at her parents’ restaurant. I think her actual birthday is on Sunday. They were also celebrating Colin’s birthday yesterday. Well, I didn’t take A LOT of pictures this time, cause’ we were mostly eating and all. So yeah. But I’ll still be posting them anyway. I got to meet some of Charlene’s school friends, too. The Plump Prefect

(Fuiyoh, I sound so wise lah… xD Ahahaha.)

I remember when I was in primary school, I used to detest prefects more than teachers! I found them so arrogant and bossy. Sheesh. It seemed as though their main goal in life was to catch all the rascals in school, write down their names, and hand them over to the disciplinary teacher and have them punished accordingly. Yeah, a very highly important job, it seems…

Unfortunately, I was once caught by one of them. Not that I was doing anything naughty, actually. You see, I was playing “tag” with one of my friends (I think her name was Chan-something-something) whose cousin was a prefect. Not that I mattered whether her cousin was a prefect or not actually. But as I was trying to catch her, I noticed that there was a black stain on her nose…

And guess what did I do when I saw it? It was a very foolish thing to do, really.

I LAUGHED. (Okay, laughing wasn’t the bad part. But the thing is, I refused to tell her what I was laughing at. Now that was a foolish thing to do.)

Soon we got into a rash argument, and the next thing I knew was, she reported me to her oh-so-scary prefect cousin. Man, I tell you, I hated that prefect girl! She was extremely plump – a far-too-nice-word to use – and she wore thick, black-rimmed glasses. Oh how I loathed the sight of her! Just because I LAUGHED, and just because I laughed at someone who had a prefect for a cousin, I was unfairly accused with the charge of mistreating another student. And I also got a long lecture from that plump prefect girl.

OK, end of story. I feel too disgusted to continue.

Back to the quote – life is about knowing the right people. Just because her cousin was a prefect, my friend managed to get me into trouble just because of a small matter that wouldn’t have really mattered much if she didn’t know who to complain to. Aha, so now you get my point?

Many people make enemies in life. Some are just unavoidable, though. (That’s an example of knowing the wrong people.) But if you surround yourself with the right company, your life would be much more meaningful.

Proverbs 12:26 says, “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

Remember, stick to people who stick to God’s principles – the right principles. But take note that YOU yourself should be the right company to others also la… Haha, I nearly forgot about that. ;)
